The event of Karbala and Ashura have been among the main elements that have inspired certain Orientalists to study them. Some of them regard Ashura as a major factor for manifestation of Shiism in the world. Some of them may come up with good understanding of Ashura based on Shii sources. Yet, those who draw upon non-Shii works have made big mistakes in understanding and appreciating Ashura.
