Abstract
Focusing on al-Abbas b. Ali, the present paper sheds light on the impact of two factors of heredity and family background in educating influential personalities. It is certain that Umm al-Banin, the mother of al-Abbas b. Ali, played a significant role in upbringing a brave, loyal, and indightful dignitary who obeyed Imam al-Husayn in the most critical time
