Ashura historiography is one of the reasons for permanence of Imam al-Husayn's heart-rending martyrdom. The 2nd/8th century is credited with inception of the Ashura historiography, a movement that continued well into the 4th/10th century when it reached its zenith. Certain other factors influenced this trend, e.g., the emergence of Shiite learning centers in Qum, ulema-centered academia, ans the development of Persian maqtals.
