Abstract
Among the discourses of Imam al-Husayn, his letters to his opponents prove significant. They contain his outlook of the Umayyad hegemony and order, assertion of their usurping the right of the Ahl al-Bayt's right of rulership, admonitions to their rulers for crossing the red lines of the Prophet's practices, full-fledged support of the rightful companions of the Prophet Muhammad, and highlighting the abominable moral trairs and practices of Abu Sufiyan, the ancestor of the Umayyads. The present content-analysis study seeks to shed light on certain major wrongdoings of the Umayyad hegemony based on Imam al-Husayn's factual letters.
