Abstract
The Levantines' may be regarded as those who expressed their utmost enmity against the Ahl al-Bayt, Imam `Ali, and his household. An evidence of this enmity was their role and participation in the Ashura episode which was caused by certain factors imposed on them as well as those that came from their moral traits. Among the external factors, the Umayyads' insistence on keeping their subjects away from the rest of the Muslim heartlands, spreading the idea of coercion, and suppressing their opponents. Of the internal factors, their close adherence to supporting the Umayyad hegemony and rulers, and their credulity to accept the Umayyads' words.
