Abstract
Ashura has since proved an impetus and an eternal source of inspiration for many poets. The Iraqi poet, Muhammad Mahdi al-Jawahiri, composed an `ayn-rhymed qasida on Ahura. It has been subject to various studies. In it, the poet delves into various reasons why the Ashura episode has not been appreciated as it really deserves, often subject to various distortions. He finally comes up with his expressing his staunch belief in Imam al-Husayn.
