The Ashura movement has been the most salient of all movements in the history of Islam. This is why it is still fervently commemorated every year. This being so, other movements are just recorded in books and chronicles, with little sociopolitical and cultural effects. The present paper deals with a variety of reasons for the eternity of the Ashura episode. One of the main reasons is that the imamate of Imam al-Husayn had long been asserted in Islam, plus his exemplary conduct has since made it distinct from other political leaders.
